In Their Own Words:
"We had a smoke damaged Chinese wool rug that we were going to dispose of because we thought it could never be restored to look good again. Someone mentioned the RugSpa name and we spoke with them. We arranged for them to try to clean the rug and they agreed that if it did not look good they would dispose of it and not charge us for the cleaning. This enabled us to be only at risk for the shipping. We gave it a try and now it is as beautiful as new and resting back home on our living room floor. " -Robert White from

Oriental Wool Rug Care
Do you know the 7 substances that can ruin your rug and require professional cleaning? Visit Stain Removal for Oriental & Persian rugs
Regular maintenance and stain prevention are key!

In Their Own Words:
"I want to thank you for the beautiful job you did in cleaning the rug. The colors are so much brighter and it now shines and feels like silk rather than cotton. I am especially pleased with the way the fringe was "tamed" and turned under. The rug has a whole different appearance. I was a little concerned about shipping the rug in a plastic package, but it arrived safely with no damage. Thank you and all your employees for turning our rug into a showpiece. " -Sue Ullmer from
Appleton,

If you can, vacuum your wool rugs lightly each day. Once a week, vacuum thoroughly, preferably with a brush-and-beater-bar type of vacuum cleaner. A light cleaning consists of three passes with a vacuum over a given area of your Oriental rug: forward, backward, and forward. A thorough cleaning of a wool rug takes up to seven strokes. If you are using a vacuum that provides suction only, be sure to use it patiently for proper maintenance. Move the vacuum cleaner slowly across your Oriental rug to allow the suction to remove embedded soil particles.
For the best possible wool rug care: Try to vacuum across the rug extra slowly -- half at a time instead of up and down. You will be less likely to catch your Oriental rug's fringe in the vacuum head -- plus, vacuuming across is much easier because it floats your vacuum down the rug.
An ounce of prevention...
Spot Clean using bottled club soda and extract with wet-vac. Soiling of your wool rugs will vary from home to home and location to location, but it's important to catch sand and soil on the surface of the Oriental rug BEFORE it has a chance to become deeply embedded. Also, walk-off mats outside your door are excellent at keeping dirt from entering the home.
Cleaning Wool Rugs
Has your rug been cleaned in the past three years? If not, let us inspect it and determine whether it is in need of thorough cleaning. Wool rugs vary due to the amount of traffic received and the location that they are used in. Some need cleaning sooner than others.
After five years of use, all Oriental wool rugs are ready for professional, thorough deep washing. For special cleaning of a wool rug, send your rug to us. We will clean it on both sides including the fringe. We will moisturize, rejuvenate, and revive the wool. We also inspect your rug for needed repairs and notify you of any damage or problems that you may not have noticed.
Special Wool Rug Care Recommendations
- Fabric protector is an excellent stain guard, especially on light-colored rugs, wall-to-wall carpet, and furniture. We highly recommend it!
- Moth-proofing is a must if you want to safely guard against insect damage in your wool rugs while in storage or in use.
- Deodorizing is an extremely effective treatment against recurring animal odor to keep your rug in safe, clean, hygienic condition.
Pads or Underlays
Use a high-quality, non-skid, underlay pad if your rug rests on hardwood, tile, terrazzo, or hard-surfaced flooring. This acts as a shock absorber for your rug. When using rugs over wall-to-wall carpeting, no underlay is needed since the wall-to-wall carpet acts as a cushion. If, however, your Oriental rug starts wrinkling or bunching up, a special rug stabilizer can be placed between your rug and the carpeting. This will correct the problem.
Rug Placement Recommendations
Avoid direct exposure to hot sunlight (especially in summer) by closing your curtains or blinds; this will help protect the colors in your rug. If placing near a fireplace, be sure to use a hearth screen to keep sparks from damaging your rug.
